FAO-SWALIM Work in Puntland

Since 2006 Somalia Water and Land Information Management (SWALIM) has been operating in Puntland. Informative data has been collected on land, water and climate. The information is organized in themes: Water resources (Climate, floods, water resources and water reports); Land resources (Land degradation, Land suitability, soils and land reports). This information is generated with the support of a strong Information management, GIS and remote sensing units in collaboration with Puntland government partner institutions. The Puntland water and land resources – Information Management Center

The Information Management Center (IMC) will be a special agency under the Puntland State of Somalia whose main function shall be to collect, process and analyze water and land resources information in coordination with the relevant government institutions, in support of policy development for sustainable and integrated water and land resources management, and to provide water and land related data and information to the end users. Tropical storm KYARR appears to be weakening rapidly in the last 24 hours. The storm which was earlier predicted to affect parts of Somaliland, Puntland and Central Regions of Somalia is not expected to make land fall in Somalia

FAO CBDS supporting innovative capacity building on land cover classification

FAO CBDS is organizing a series of on-the-job trainings to cover all the components of land cover mapping from data acquisition to automatic classification and accuracy assessments. The trainings are modular, allowing each national team to cover only those aspects where capacities need to be enhanced.

FAO SWALIM Holds Information Share-Fair in Hargeisa Somaliland

March 03 2019: The Food and Agriculture Organization’s Somalia Water and Land Information Management (FAO-SWALIM) project held a well-attended information sharing open day at the Maan-soor hotel in Hargeisa, Somaliland. The event was a great success and provided an opportunity for partners from Somaliland government institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, Academia and private sector to learn more about SWALIM’s award-winning work and impact it has in Somaliland.

Italian Cooperation supports the SWALIM programme

15 November 2018 - The Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, met today and approved, among other matters, a 3-million-Euro grant to support FAO’s SWALIM programme (Somali Water and Land Information Management), Phase VI in Somalia. https://bit.ly/2FI5e1p
